“Yes we can!!”……can we really?
The US election did, indeed, have a historical outcome with Barack Obama becoming the first black president .Much has been anticipated with relation to the bearing this election outcome will have on the world stage. Cries of “change” and a new era for the US politics at home and abroad have been heard. How true are these expectations of change? Will the world be a different place now that a black president is the new commander in chief of USA? The world might be moving towards a change, but would it be a change for the better or worse? Will Barack Obama be able to come up to the expectation of not only his own people but also on the expectations of all those non Americans who cheered for him, supported his ideals and celebrated his success around the globe? The answer to all these questions is that only time will decide whether Barack Obama is equipped with the kind of determination required to grapple with a global economic slowdown ,a quagmire like war on terrorism and post bush regime foreign policy challenges.
However on a positive note and keeping human optimism in sight, which gives us hope and courage to endure all difficulties, Mr.president will have a tough road to walk on given the scale of problems…..BUT if he is guided and aided by sane heads in his new cabinet, and there is no doubt about their experience, knowledge and intelligence ,the problems USA is facing could get resolved for the better, of not only Americans but also for the rest of the world. We live in globalized world. If something happens ,whether good or bad, it has a bearing on all members of the world community……So if a “change” comes to America in terms of a better international image, stable economy and a well thought out foreign policy (free of hawkish tendencies) then it will have a positive impact on the rest of the world too.And that is what is required the most.
